Join a dedicated team of no more than ten volunteers on this incredible dolphin & marine conservation project in Zanzibar’s Menai Bay Conservation Area. Become a guardian of this delicate marine ecosystem, protecting it from the harmful effects of human activities. Your hands-on work involves daily boat trips and snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, where you’ll conduct vital research on both bottlenose and humpback dolphins. Track their movements and behaviors, monitor their interactions with tourist boats, and even have the chance to swim with them in an ethical manner. This intimate experience is designed to leave a lasting impact on marine life sustainability, providing you with valuable skills in marine conservation and cross-cultural communication.
Immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of Zanzibar, an East African paradise renowned for its stunning turquoise waters and pristine white-sand beaches. Our inviting base is perfectly nestled in Jambiani, a charming fishing village on the island’s southeastern coast, providing an authentic taste of Zanzibar’s island lifestyle including memorable weekly dinners with local families. During your well-deserved free time, you can explore exciting activities like thrilling kitesurfing or simply unwind on a leisurely traditional Dhow boat trip as the sun sets. This immersive Zanzibar marine conservation volunteer experience seamlessly combines meaningful work with the captivating, laid-back charm of true island life
Experience Zanzibar like never before at our modern, beachfront property designed for comfort and security. Indulge in Zanzibar’s rich and diverse culinary scene. A local chef prepares fresh, delicious meals for you every weekday (Mon-Fri), featuring incredibly fresh seafood and a variety of local favorites like Zanzibar pizza, biryani, pilau, mishkaki (meat skewers), and mandazi (Swahili doughnuts). Options are available for non-seafood eaters as well
Our accommodation offers free WiFi to help you keep in touch with home. For additional connectivity, SIM cards can be easily purchased at local shops or the airport, with various packages for calls and data
Arrive at Abeid Amani Karume (ZNZ) International Airport on your Monday start date, where our friendly team will greet you with a sign for one of our two convenient transfers (11 am or 5 pm). You’ll be supported by experienced staff, including our Marine Coordinator, Nellie, a Norwegian marine biologist. Nellie leads vital projects on dolphin tourism behavior monitoring, coral reef bleaching, fisheries activity monitoring, and seagrass surveys, balancing ecological health with community engagement for sustainable conservation impacts.
Your safety in Zanzibar is paramount. We implement comprehensive measures, including 24/7 patrols at our secure base, continuous staff safety training, and strict protocols for boat and snorkeling activities with life jackets and trained personnel.
